What ExplainBot is

What ExplainBot is

ExplainBot is a Pakistan-based SaaS starter kit that is more than just a chatbot demo — it's a complete foundation for launching an AI-powered chat platform of your own. Instead of building the authentication layer, payments, an admin panel, and AI model integrations from scratch, a developer gets a ready-made skeleton that just needs adapting to a specific brand and use case, significantly cutting the time from idea to a working product.

This approach — selling a ready-made starter skeleton instead of a finished app — has become an increasingly popular business model among developers who noticed how repetitive the work of launching yet another AI-powered SaaS project tends to be.

For a first-time technical founder with an idea for a specialized AI chatbot who doesn't want to spend weeks building infrastructure, ExplainBot offers real time savings — the whole "plumbing" layer (authentication, database, model API integration) is already done, freeing up energy to focus on what actually differentiates the product from competitors: the system prompt, model choice, and a unique user interface.

Starter kits of this kind have grown popular alongside the explosion of specialized AI chatbots for narrow niches — legal, medical, educational — where the technical layer is essentially identical regardless of the field, and the real value lies in fine-tuning the training, prompts, and industry-specific knowledge, knowledge worth writing up in its own ai notes before any coding even starts. ExplainBot lets a founder skip the repetitive part and focus precisely on that specialization.

A developer using ExplainBot to launch their own product makes dozens of small technical decisions during setup — which model provider, what database structure, which features from the starter kit to keep and which to strip out. Without documenting those decisions, it becomes hard months later to reconstruct why a particular configuration was chosen, especially once another developer joins the project and has to understand the existing code from scratch, with no context beyond the code comments themselves.

SumizAI complements that process: every meaningful configuration decision, along with its rationale, can be saved as ai notes in a local Markdown file that lives in the project repository alongside the code, versioned together with the rest of the codebase in the same version control system. A team building on ExplainBot ends up with living documentation of architectural decisions in the form of ai notes, instead of relying on the memory of whoever configured the system at launch and may have long since left the project.

These tools complement each other: ExplainBot provides a ready-made technical foundation for a fast start, while SumizAI ensures the knowledge of why that foundation was configured a particular way survives as these notes available to anyone joining the project later. A founder building several niche chatbots in parallel on the same starter kit ends up with a separate these notes file per project, so decisions made for one niche don't get mixed up with decisions made for a completely different one.

What SumizAI is

A note-taking application built around a conversation with an AI model. You ask a question, the answer streams back, and the answers worth keeping become Markdown notes — filed into a vault that is a folder on your own disk.

A vault is a directory holding base.md, a generated table of contents up to six levels deep, and a notes/ folder with one .md file per note. Before a note is written it is checked against the ones already there, so the fourth note about the same idea gets merged instead of added. Links between notes are ordinary Markdown links to files that exist.

The model is never ours: you bring your own API key to one of seven providers — Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, a local Ollama or your own server — and pay that provider directly. A question sends the table of contents plus at most five relevant notes within a 24,000-character budget, and the app shows you which five it used.

Every answer kept this way becomes one of these ai notes, ready to search again months later without hunting back through old chats.

Where they differ

  • ExplainBot is a place to have the conversation. SumizAI is not a chatbot — the conversation is the input, not the product. What comes out of it is a .md file with a title, a place in base.md and a duplicate check against the notes already in the vault. If you only want to talk to a model, you do not need SumizAI.
  • ExplainBot is freemium: there is a free tier and a paid one, and the line between them is the thing to read before committing. SumizAI has one plan at a dollar a month, so there is no feature held back for a higher tier — and an unpaid account still opens and exports every vault it already has.
  • AlternativeTo's description of ExplainBot does not mention Markdown, so check what format your notes end up in before you fill it up. SumizAI writes standard .md files to a folder you picked, and an unpaid account can still export all of them.
  • ExplainBot runs in the browser. SumizAI is a desktop and mobile application, and on the desktop the vault is a folder on your own disk rather than a document in someone's cloud.

Which one to pick

Reasons to pick ExplainBot

  • you need it to run in a browser

Reasons to pick SumizAI

  • the notes you want already exist inside conversations with an AI model
  • you want the filing — title, chapter, duplicate check — to happen without you
  • you want the result as plain .md files in a folder you picked
  • you would rather pay your AI provider directly than have a note app resell the model
