What GPTMobile is

What GPTMobile is

GPTMobile is an Android chat app that lets you talk to multiple language models at once and compare their answers side by side. Developed on GitHub under the name gpt_mobile, it follows a "bring your own API key" model — supporting OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Groq, and local Ollama, so the user pays the model provider directly, not the app's maker.

Key features

Being able to ask one question and see answers from several models at once, in an interface built on Material3 and Compose, lets you compare style and quality without switching between separate apps. Support for multimodal models with image and file upload extends usefulness beyond plain text. The app is distributed through F-Droid and GitHub Releases, with the latter offering the fastest access to new versions at the cost of skipping the vetting process typical of official repositories.

Who it's for

GPTMobile appeals to Android users who want to compare AI models from different providers without opening a separate subscription with each one — paying only for queries actually used, on their own API key. Open-source enthusiasts who value apps with no data collection and no middleman between the user and the model provider will find a tool aligned with that philosophy.

Use cases

In practice, GPTMobile works well for testing which model handles a specific type of query best — comparing Claude's and GPT's answers to the same programming question in one window, for example. Someone working with a local model through Ollama can simultaneously check how it stacks up against paid cloud models, using the same app for both. Someone traveling with limited access to one API provider can switch to another without changing apps.

Pricing and business model

The app itself is free and open source, and costs on the user's side are limited to API fees at the chosen model providers — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Groq — billed directly between the user and the provider, with no markup from a middleman app.

Limitations and what to watch for

GPTMobile is Android-only, with no iOS version, limiting its usefulness for users in the Apple ecosystem. The app requires Android 12 or newer, so older devices may not have access to it. The "bring your own key" model also means the user has to independently configure and pay for access to every provider they want to use.

AI notes from model comparisons

GPTMobile offers no lasting conversation archive in notebook form — chat history mainly serves for looking back within the app itself. Someone wanting to keep a worthwhile comparative answer as an ai notes entry has to copy it manually into a separate notes app, since GPTMobile doesn't automatically export such fragments as text files on disk.

The "bring your own API key" philosophy

A model where the app is purely an interface, not a financial middleman between the user and the model provider, means no markup added by the app's maker on every query — the user pays exactly what the provider charges, with no extra fee for the app itself.

What's worth checking before choosing

Before installing, check whether GPTMobile supports the newest models from your chosen providers, since small, community-driven open-source projects can be slower to add support for freshly released model versions than official provider apps.

Bottom line

GPTMobile is a free Android app for comparing multiple AI models at once on your own API key, with no financial middleman. Anyone who wants worthwhile answers from such comparisons to land automatically as ai notes in a lasting archive should consider a tool built around that workflow.

Comparison with SumizAI

GPTMobile and SumizAI differ in primary purpose. GPTMobile focuses on comparing answers from multiple models at once, with no lasting archive. SumizAI turns a conversation with one chosen model into ai notes — answers worth keeping land automatically as Markdown files in a vault the user owns, also on your own API key to one of seven providers. Anyone who wants to compare models side by side will pick GPTMobile; anyone who wants ai notes from an AI conversation to build a lasting archive will find SumizAI the better-fitting tool.

What SumizAI is

A note-taking application built around a conversation with an AI model. You ask a question, the answer streams back, and the answers worth keeping become Markdown notes — filed into a vault that is a folder on your own disk.

A vault is a directory holding base.md, a generated table of contents up to six levels deep, and a notes/ folder with one .md file per note. Before a note is written it is checked against the ones already there, so the fourth note about the same idea gets merged instead of added. Links between notes are ordinary Markdown links to files that exist.

The model is never ours: you bring your own API key to one of seven providers — Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, a local Ollama or your own server — and pay that provider directly. A question sends the table of contents plus at most five relevant notes within a 24,000-character budget, and the app shows you which five it used.

Every answer kept this way becomes one of these ai notes, ready to search again months later without hunting back through old chats.

Where they differ

  • GPTMobile is a place to have the conversation. SumizAI is not a chatbot — the conversation is the input, not the product. What comes out of it is a .md file with a title, a place in base.md and a duplicate check against the notes already in the vault. If you only want to talk to a model, you do not need SumizAI.
  • AlternativeTo's description of GPTMobile does not mention an AI model. That is the whole starting point in SumizAI: you have a conversation with a model on your own API key, and the answers worth keeping become notes without you filing them.
  • GPTMobile is open source (GPL-3.0), and SumizAI is not. If reading the source is what decides it for you, that is a real argument for GPTMobile. The guarantee SumizAI offers instead is structural rather than legal: the notes are Markdown files in a folder you chose, so they open in any editor whether or not the application is running.
  • AlternativeTo's description of GPTMobile does not mention Markdown, so check what format your notes end up in before you fill it up. SumizAI writes standard .md files to a folder you picked, and an unpaid account can still export all of them.

Which one to pick

Reasons to pick GPTMobile

  • the source is open and you want to read it
  • it costs nothing

Reasons to pick SumizAI

  • the notes you want already exist inside conversations with an AI model
  • you want the filing — title, chapter, duplicate check — to happen without you
  • you want the result as plain .md files in a folder you picked
  • you would rather pay your AI provider directly than have a note app resell the model
