What Inline Note is

Inline Note is a lightweight note-taking app with inline categorization and a visual graph view. The app lets you connect your thoughts naturally while writing, instead of requiring a separate organizing stage after note-taking is finished. Inline Note comes from Germany, within the European Union, and runs as an online SaaS service under a freemium model.

Key features and functionality

Inline categorization means a user can assign categories or tags to fragments of a note directly while writing, without interrupting the content-creation process for a separate organizational stage. The visual graph view lets connections between different notes be seen as a graphical network, making it easier to spot patterns and links invisible in a traditional, linear list of notes. Naturally connecting thoughts while writing sets Inline Note apart from tools requiring links to be created manually after the fact - the system recognizes connections on the fly, as the user formulates successive sentences.

Who it's for

Inline Note is aimed primarily at people who prefer organic, natural connection of thoughts while writing, instead of manually, deliberately building note structure after work is done. Mind mapping and visual knowledge organization enthusiasts appreciate the graph view as a way to see the bigger picture of connections between notes. People keeping an extensive, interlinked note archive, for instance in the spirit of the Zettelkasten method, find in Inline Note a tool supporting that knowledge organization philosophy. Users who value lightness and speed, tired of the overwhelming number of features in more elaborate competing tools, choose Inline Note for its simplicity.

Use cases

A researcher keeping notes from many sources at once uses inline categorization to tag related topics directly while writing, building a dense network of connections visible in the graph view over time. Someone running a personal Zettelkasten system uses Inline Note to naturally link new notes with existing ones, without needing to manually search for related entries. A student preparing for an exam reviews the graph view of their notes, noticing connections between topics that would be missed in traditional, linear browsing. A writer developing a complex plot uses the visual graph to track connections between characters, threads, and events in their story.

Pricing and business model

Inline Note runs on a freemium model, offering free access to core note-taking and categorization functionality and a paid subscription unlocking expanded graph view capabilities and larger note storage limits. This model lets users test the value of naturally connecting thoughts before deciding on a paid subscription matched to the scale of their accumulated archive.

Comparison with SumizAI

Inline Note and SumizAI operate in different areas of digital knowledge work. Inline Note is a specialized note-taking tool with categorization and connection visualization, with no integration with AI models. SumizAI, by contrast, is a platform enabling conversations with multiple AI providers at once, unrelated to visually mapping connections between notes. Someone building a network of connected notes in Inline Note might additionally use SumizAI when they need AI help researching a topic before adding it to their knowledge graph.

AI notes visible in a visual graph

People pasting the results of AI model consultations into Inline Note as ai notes use inline categorization to immediately link such an entry to related topics in their archive. The graph view lets it be seen how individual ai notes from AI conversations fit into the broader knowledge network a user is building, instead of remaining isolated, detached entries. Naturally connecting thoughts while writing means a new ai notes entry automatically gains context through links to existing notes on related topics. The app's lightweight nature means adding another these notes entry to an already elaborate graph doesn't slow the interface down, even across hundreds of interlinked entries.

What SumizAI is

A note-taking application built around a conversation with an AI model. You ask a question, the answer streams back, and the answers worth keeping become Markdown notes — filed into a vault that is a folder on your own disk.

A vault is a directory holding base.md, a generated table of contents up to six levels deep, and a notes/ folder with one .md file per note. Before a note is written it is checked against the ones already there, so the fourth note about the same idea gets merged instead of added. Links between notes are ordinary Markdown links to files that exist.

The model is never ours: you bring your own API key to one of seven providers — Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, a local Ollama or your own server — and pay that provider directly. A question sends the table of contents plus at most five relevant notes within a 24,000-character budget, and the app shows you which five it used.

Every answer kept this way becomes one of these ai notes, ready to search again months later without hunting back through old chats.

Where they differ

  • AlternativeTo's description of Inline Note does not mention an AI model. That is the whole starting point in SumizAI: you have a conversation with a model on your own API key, and the answers worth keeping become notes without you filing them.
  • Inline Note is freemium: there is a free tier and a paid one, and the line between them is the thing to read before committing. SumizAI has one plan at a dollar a month, so there is no feature held back for a higher tier — and an unpaid account still opens and exports every vault it already has.
  • AlternativeTo's description of Inline Note does not mention Markdown, so check what format your notes end up in before you fill it up. SumizAI writes standard .md files to a folder you picked, and an unpaid account can still export all of them.
  • Inline Note is described in terms of linking notes together. SumizAI links them too, but deliberately without a syntax of its own: a link is an ordinary Markdown link, [Title](file-name.md), and the model may only point at a file that actually exists. There are no wiki-style [[…]] links to lose on export.
  • Inline Note runs in the browser. SumizAI is a desktop and mobile application, and on the desktop the vault is a folder on your own disk rather than a document in someone's cloud.
  • Both are run from the EU: SumizAI's operator is registered in Poland and the servers are in Germany.

Which one to pick

Reasons to pick Inline Note

  • you need it to run in a browser

Reasons to pick SumizAI

  • the notes you want already exist inside conversations with an AI model
  • you want the filing — title, chapter, duplicate check — to happen without you
  • you want the result as plain .md files in a folder you picked
  • you would rather pay your AI provider directly than have a note app resell the model
